For the design of ametria, a highly conceptual exhibition maze with more than 200 artworks, arcHITects in collaboration with Fair Dynamics, introduces the use of ABM modelling tecniques.
ametria project deals with set-up s a maze-like area able to affect visitors mood, steering their feelings so that to create a complete personal experience
ametria was the opportunity to experiment the first exhibition in the world studied and verified with a flexible model that enables to capture the complexity and heterogeneity of the system designed, in order to define the layout that better suits the curatorial requirements.
The use of ABM modelling techniques allowed testing different gallery layouts to evaluate ex-ante,:
In an ABM model the agents (people) act with a defined behavior (main drivers, reactions, memory, states, …), are in a certain environment, establishing connections. The global behavior then emerges as a result of interactions of many individual behaviors.
This model gives the opportunity to analyze the project working in 4 dimensions (3D space plus time).
Since today this was a point of view reserved solely to existing buildings, but for the first time this technology has been used to define the path inside the maze exhibition and the relation between the artworks. The result returns detailed statistics useful for the curators and for the final design of the maze.
“the thing that was the most impressive and striking was the exhibition design”(Kimberly Bradley – Monocle)
